I have a lot of friends in all corners of the world who share my love for illustrated journaling and sketchbooking Some are famous designers and artists, some are just people like me who live to drawin their spare time. This boks collects fifty of them together to talk about their journaling life, share their POVs on media, on style, on the artistic life. Writing it was a real education and deeply inspiring. I still turn to it all the time for new insights and directions. You can watch a cool little film about the project right here. This is the book I always wanted to read and now I own a copy. You can too.
It is a very illustrated book. I am very crazy about art. When i read this book, i always get some new ideas. Thanks to our lovely author who gives us a lot of inspiration.
This book has become a bible of sorts for me. I like to look at the images at night, they fuel my inspiration for the day. Each artist’s story, habits, preferences, idiosyncrasies are varied and a real boost when not sure what to do next. Just as Danny, I waited for a long time to see such book, and I am thankful he was smart enough to come up with it since all of us weren’t!
Merci Danny!

This book has already changed my life style. I didn’t notice that people can draw what they see, what they feel, what they conceive of at a sketchbook before i read that book. Even i am studying design now, sometimes i felt full of stress about drawing.Because at my school, students draw for mark and credit hour, it sounds crazy right? And a great deal of people around me consider that our student should darw in a academic way but no others. Thanks to your inspirational book, now i have a sketchbook now, and it make my daily life colorful.
PS:I’m sorry that my English is not well~
This outstanding book has become an important part of my library. It serves up inspiration whenever I need it. I recommend it frequently to anyone interested in drawing, creativity, and sketchbooks.
A brilliant follow up to Everyday Matters and The Creative License.
Keep up the great work, Danny.
I have looked at this book until the pages have fallen out. (More copies on order!) Provoking, inspiring (tired words but still true!) – impossible NOT to pull out your sketchbook and be brave. I just finished The Creative License too while on a trip to the Kern River Valley – reading and drawing all the while. Thanks Danny.
[...] “An Illustrated Life” which is full of journals from various other artists. It’s really cool, I love looking at other artists’ journals. There is something different about peeking into the journal of an artist than when you view work that was specifically made for public consumption. I believe you get more of a view of the artist and their personality and their life when you can get a view of their journals. [...]

i also was fortunate to get this book at the library. It is so good to see how much other people enjoy sketchbook journaling. Reading about others who also do this has given me a great sense of validation. For some reason i have been holding back on how often i want to sketch and write things down. constantly questioning the value, the purpose, not realizing other people do this. After reading only small portions of the book and realizing this is something many people do; i am going to get a bunch of small sketchbooks to keep in different rooms, in my car; at my office so that i can express myself anywhere, anytime. it will also be fun to look for different writing tools for each location. Thank you.
